Launching the UK’s New AEE Guidance: A Milestone for Sustainable Spaceflight

Exciting news for the UK space sector!

Last week, a brand new guidance document from ISEP launched (pun fully intended): UK Spaceports & Launch Operators – Industry Good Practice Guidance for the Assessment of Environmental Effects.

This guidance provides a clear, practical framework for completing an Assessment of Environmental Effects (AEE) – a mandatory step for anyone applying for a UK launch operator or spaceport licence under the Space Industry Act 2018.

An AEE isn’t just a formality: it plays a vital role in helping the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) set appropriate licence conditions and ongoing reporting and monitoring requirements. Ultimately, it ensures applicants properly consider their potential environmental impacts and identify proportionate measures to avoid, mitigate, or offset significant effects.

Having supported launch operators at a number of Scottish spaceports through both planning applications and CAA licensing, we’re proud to have contributed to the Noise and Vibration guidance in this publication. We’re excited to see this guidance released and to continue playing a role in shaping a sustainable and responsible future for UK spaceflight.
